January 31, 2024 – GLENDALE, Arizona – Willmeng Construction celebrated the beginning of work on the newest Morrison Education Group campus, Sun Valley Academy – Glendale. The groundbreaking ceremony for this modern, K-8 education facility welcomed two special guests, Diamondbacks legend and World Series hero Luis Gonzales and Arizona Corporation Commissioner Anna Tovar, who is also a member of the Arizona State Board of Education, who each provided remarks to the invited attendees.
Sun Valley Academy – Glendale is a Title 1 tuition-free K-8 public charter school and is the third campus opened by Morrison Education Group. The Glendale campus was designed by Carhuff + Cueva Architects and consists of 59,000 square feet of educational space to serve the Glendale community.
“Our schools are founded on love,” explains Dr. Tanae Morrison, CEO and founder of Sun Valley Academy. “When students know they are loved, they can learn and achieve at high levels. Scholars discover that love in action is called leadership, which is why we emphasize strength of character and leadership skills that empower students to lead in our classrooms and communities.”
The Sun Valley Academy – Glendale facility will feature 59,000 square feet in one building, including classrooms, a multi-purpose room, outdoor playground and a sports field. The project will be completed in a short timeframe, and the school will welcome its first students this Fall.
Morrison Education Group founded its Sun Valley Academy in 2009 with its flagship campus in South Phoenix. Sun Valley Academy – Avondale opened in 2020 and those two campuses serve 1,000 K-8 students with a tuition-free education. Sun Valley Academy also offers low-cost, Kinder-ready preschool at all campuses.
Leslie Shultz-Crist, Founding Principal of Sun Valley Academy – Glendale states, “Every student, every day, deserves our very best, and our educators are ‘all in’ for our students. This means creating a safe and engaging learning environment and a personalized approach to education. It also means forming purposeful relationships with families so we work in partnership with them to ensure their children thrive.”
Sun Valley Academy has high expectations for every student, with the support and encouragement to meet those expectations. From free tutoring and academic assistance to sports, clubs, and extracurricular activities, students are equipped to become the best versions of themselves in every area of their lives.
