In May, Willmeng broke ground on a high-tech electrical vehicle manufacturing facility in Mesa. Marwest Enterprises in developing the project located near the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. It is one of several East Valley projects Willmeng is involved in.
The new 235,000 square foot facility will include an assembly and manufacturing plant for Canadian electrical vehicle manufacturer ElectraMeccanica. The project also included a research center, 22,000 square feet of office space, and 19,000 square feet of lab space. ElectraMeccanica will lease the building from Marwest Enterprises to maintain its asset-light model. Ware Malcomb is designing the building Hunter Engineering is completing the engineering requirements. Willmeng Construction as the General Contractor.
The project is on pace for Spring 2022 completion and it will join other high-tech vehicle production facilities in Arizona. Lucid Motors, an electric car manufacturer, and Nikola Motors, which is developing hydrogen fuel-cell powered semis, have plants in Pinal County. Lucid is already rolling out its first line of vehicles and has plans for a more than 1 million-square-foot expansion.
