The event was an opportunity to enjoy a day on the links, while benefiting a worthy cause. This annual fundraiser provides toys to sick children. Organized and stocked by a dedicated Child Life department, the toy closets bring smiles to the faces of thousands of children by allowing each child to pick their own toy. Trips to the toy closet may follow a painful procedure or scary treatment, or when a child just needs a little boost. “It’s amazing what having that small choice in the middle of a situation where often there is no choice can have in a child’s attitude and healing,” said Sue Eaton, director of Child Life. “A toy is a small thing but it can go a long way in helping a child face a frightening situation through distraction and comfort.”
Willmeng Construction holds a special place for Cardon Children’s Medical Center. Along with supporting the Golf Tournament, Willmeng also sponsors one of Banner’s Toy Closets. The Audrey Jane Murphy Closet is named for Willmeng President James Murphy’s daughter, a former patient at Cardon Children’s Medical Center. In support of the Audrey Jane Murphy closet, Willmeng employees held an in-house toy drive. They raised dozens of toys to lift the spirits of Banner’s youngest patients.
