Why “Safety First” is a Culture, Not Just a Checklist at Willmeng

At Willmeng, we often say that our success is built by talented people. But even more fundamental than our skill or dedication is a single, unwavering priority: Safety. As we celebrate Construction Safety Week, we are reminded that safety isn’t just a campaign or a set of protocols reserved for the jobsite—it’s a commitment that lives in our culture every single day. Whether we are 100 feet in the air or sitting in a boardroom, the mindset remains the same: everyone goes home safe.

A Safety Moment in Every Meeting

One of the most impactful ways we’ve integrated this “Safety First” initiative is by bringing it into our daily office life and corporate interactions. At Willmeng, every internal and external meeting begins with a Safety Moment. By dedicating the first few minutes of every conversation to a safety-based topic, ranging from office ergonomics and heat awareness to emergency preparedness, we ensure that safety stays at the forefront of our minds. This practice reinforces our culture, showing our clients and trade partners that their well-being is our primary concern before the first blueprint is even unrolled.

Going the Extra Mile: The AED Initiative

Safety leadership often comes from the individual dedication of our team members. A standout example of this is Eric Vogt, who has taken our safety culture to heart by ensuring our team is prepared for the unexpected, even at our most celebratory moments.

Eric has made it his mission to bring an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to every major Willmeng event. While we hope to never use it, having this life-saving equipment on hand is a testament to our proactive approach to health and wellness.

All In Together: Plan. Own. Commit.

This year’s Construction Safety Week theme, “All In Together,” perfectly mirrors the Willmeng way. Safety is a shared responsibility. When a team member like Eric takes the initiative to carry an AED, or when a Project Manager pauses a meeting for a safety tip, they are owning the safety of the entire Willmeng family.

Our commitment to safety is a big part of why we’ve maintained an industry-leading safety record and earned the trust of our partners across Mountainwest. By fostering an environment where every voice is heard and every precaution is taken, we continue to build excellence—safely.
