The manufacturing portion of the Northrop Grumman Launch Vehicles Division HQ incorporated significant outfitting in order to adequately support their $1.1 billion defense contract. This project entailed the construction of a 277,000 SF 2-story manufacturing building to manufacture materials with secure access bays.

In the production facility, Willmeng Construction included:

  • 11 five-ton overhead cranes with a 35-foot hook height and 50 feet of clear height in the Integration and Test Phase area.
  • A 3’ thick slab reinforced with wide-flange beams and #9 reinforcing bar to withstand up to 10,000 psf.
  • The precision in quality control required for this installation resulted in zero re-work after installation.
  • Test bunkers were prefabricated with fire sprinklers, lighting, lightning protection grounding, AC and exhaust ventilation.

This project had all the ingredients that make build-to-suit the right answer. Thank you to the Douglas Allred Company, Balmer Architectural Group, and all of our trade partners who made this project a giant success for Chandler and the aerospace industry.
