In a recent interview, Willmeng Senior Project Manager, Kenny Shepherd, highlighted a significant transformation in how cities are financing their recreational facilities and developing the parks infrastructure. Read more about the innovation and the powerful teams behind it that are making parks a better place for Arizona residents.

Advancing Turf System

One example of the many changes seen at parks across the valley is the shift from traditional turf on native soil to a sand profile with an under-drain system.

The shift to advanced turf systems has not only made the fields more playable but has also proven invaluable during monsoon storm events. With the new system in place, the fields can be efficiently watered at night, ensuring they are ready for play by the morning.

Strong Leadership

Further insights were provided by Willmeng’s CEO James Murphy, who expressed excitement over the evolving landscape of parks and recreation. The industry is experiencing a notable transformation, not just in facilities, but also in the range of amenities offered to the public.

There has been an exciting evolution of the parks and recreation facilities across the valley and much of the progress is due to the progressive leaders in the industry. Willmeng’s commitment to actively participating in and supporting these parks and recreation leaders remains strong and the team truly believes that strong synergy and strategy between the contractor and the city can bring to life incredible outdoor spaces for the community.

City and Contractor Collaboration

The collective effort put forth by these visionary communities and Willmeng exemplifies a shared vision. It’s not simply about creating playing fields; it’s about establishing spaces that become integral to thriving communities, fostering health, well-being, and a sense of belonging.

As the parks and recreation sector continues to forge ahead, one thing is clear: the future holds immense promise for city parks. Willmeng is proud to be part of this journey, contributing to the creation of spaces that will leave a lasting legacy for generations to come. The endeavor, as highlighted by Shepherd and Murphy, has been nothing short of exhilarating.
