Willmeng Construction and the Mesa Police Department recently hosted an event to provide status updates on the renovation of the Mesa Police Department headquarters. Willmeng and the project team recently wrapped up the demolition phase of the 120,000 square foot, four-story structure at 130 N. Robson in Mesa. The event served as a vital opportunity for personnel, who have been temporarily relocated to various buildings throughout Downtown Mesa since construction began, to reconnect and view the progress of their future home.
“The intention of this event is to showcase the work we’ve been doing for the last couple years on this headquarters remodel,” said Mesa Police Department Assistant Chief Jeff Cutler. “It is an opportunity for employees of the city and members of our community to take a look at where we’re at and to interact with our project team—the people who have been involved since the beginning.”

During the gathering, project leaders from Willmeng, DFDG Architecture, and FGM Architects were on hand to answer questions and engage with staff regarding the design and construction process. Attendees were treated to a video walkthrough of the current site and viewed architectural renderings of the modernized spaces.
The renovation, which officially kicked off in June 2025, has reached a significant milestone. Willmeng has successfully completed the demolition and structural reinforcement phase, which included stripping the building down to its frame and adding structural steel to all four floors. With the removal of aging HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems complete, the project is now transitioning into the construction. This next stage will include framing, drywall installation, and the integration of modern building systems.
“Our experience working with Chief Butler, Assistant Chief Cutler, and the City of Mesa has shown that it’s an industry-leading municipality and we are excited about the progress we have made on this very vital project,” said Willmeng CEO James Murphy. “We are proud to work in a city that is progressive, innovative and has a far-reaching vision for serving the people in the community.”

Beyond structural and systems upgrades, the renovation is intensely focused on the positive impact for both the Mesa Police Department and the wider community. The project prioritizes the well-being of the police force by enhancing working and employee common areas, specifically focusing on employee wellness.
The renovation also significantly revamps public and community engagement spaces. The building will feature a larger and more inviting public lobby, designed to create a welcoming environment for residents. The Fallen Officer Memorial will be repositioned and more prominently featured, and the holding facility will be expanded.
The building was originally built in 1974 and has had two additions in the 52 years since. The latest renovation is on track to be completed in the Fall of 2027.
