We’ve walked with them every year since because the inspiring event brings our team together, and helps to spread awareness and raise funds for a cause that is near and dear to our hearts.
UMOM is Arizona’s largest family homeless shelter that helps keep families together by providing a continuum of care from emergency shelter to transitional housing and finally, permanent, affordable housing.
The “Creators Gone Wild” team hit the zoo on Saturday, Sept. 24 to participate in a 1K walk or 5K run around the grounds. The overall turnout created an amazing sea of green! Forty-four Willmeng employees attended – most with their families in tow, and enjoyed free access to all areas of the zoo, and all inclusive kids activities such as a bounce house, rides, photo opportunities with mascots and yummy carnival food.
“I brought my grandchildren and a few other Willmeng employees did, too. There were tons of kids there, the weather was absolutely wonderful and the animals were out and interactive,” said Veronica Davis, project manager.
Through the walk, the team found out that 51 families slip into homelessness each week in Maricopa County. “All proceeds of the event helped support families in need, which is terrific! Willmeng wants to be continuously involved,” said Davis.
Last year, Willmeng acted as a vendor partner to Executive Council Charities, a group dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing grants to programs and nonprofits focused on helping youth overcome adversity. Willmeng contributed to the creation of UMOM’s New Day Center in Phoenix and was invited to the ribbon cutting in June. We were proud to support UMOM then, and are proud to support them now!
